Greetings Sports Fans!

Winter Sports has kicked off and I can’t say enough about our Winter Programs. Coach Schmidt and his Wrestling Program continues to build and provide a structured and inclusive program. His coaching staff is outstanding and I look forward to watching the program compete this year. The Women’s Basketball Program under their new Head Coach, Anthony Levrets, is off and running and there is a buzz around the building around Women’s Basketball. He and his staff are doing an outstanding job of laying a foundation of success. Coach Cokley is building a foundation with the Men’s Basketball Program in his second year and I can’t say enough about the job that he and his coaches are doing to provide guidance, leadership, and getting his players to compete. I am looking forward to getting out to Dishman to see our Swimmers compete. Coach Wiggins, Bowers, and O’Loughlin continue to build a fantastic program. If you haven’t been to a swim meet, I highly recommend it. They are a fun and exciting event! The Cheer Program is gearing up for their Winter Season with competitions coming as they march towards a run at State. And finally, our Ski and Snowboarding Teams are getting ready for their competition season as well. You can find out more information about their seasons on our Athletics website. Great things happening at Wilson! We March On!

Our student-athletes at Wilson High School are such a great group to be a part of and the value of being a student-athlete can never be overstated. Values like commitment, sacrifice, and learning a sense of accomplishment are such an important part of the experience. It is also good to remember how to cope with the ups and downs of a season as well. The following links are a good reminder of how to remained focus throughout the long winter season- https://devzone.positivecoach.org/resource/video/joe-maddon-value-composure https://devzone.positivecoach.org/resource/video/flush-mistakes-or-theyll-weigh-you-down-backpack https://d3kv8ayplk3lle.cloudfront.net/sites/uploads/files/PCA_ELMtreeScript.pdf

Furthermore, the Athletic Department expects our coaches to provide a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for their student-athletes upholding our principles of building character, connecting our community to the high school programs, supporting our athletes in the classroom, and fostering healthy competition. That is why I can’t say enough about the work that they do. The amount of time and energy they pour into their programs is why Wilson is an amazing place to be. We March On!

The Wrestling Program has launched a new website. You can find out more information about their program at https://whstrojanwrestling.weebly.com/

The Week In Review-

The Men’s Basketball Program kicked off the 2018-19 campaign when we hosted the Barlow Bruins. Barlow came in an early season top ten team and our squad competed hard against a very talented Bruin team. All levels showed great resiliency as they were tested early on. They will travel to Tualatin on Tuesday and we host West Linn on Saturday for two lower level games as well. We March On!

The Women’s Basketball Program kicked off their season at the Mountainside Tournament over the weekend and what a weekend it was. All three levels won their contests on Friday advancing to the Championship games on Saturday. The Varsity tipped off against a solid Mountainside team on Saturday night and came up just short in their efforts. The JV Squad emerged as champs on Saturday and the JV2 fell just short in their Championship Game. A great way to start out the year! We host Sunset on Tuesday for their home opener and then travel to Forest Grove on Friday. We March On!
