Greetings Sports Fans! The final week of the regular season is upon us and our Fall Programs are battling to see where they land in the post-season. It is shaking up to be an exciting finish for all of our programs and as we gear up for the final weeks of the season, I wanted to say thank you to all the student-athletes, coaches, and families for all of your hard work and commitment. And a huge thanks to the Wilson teachers, custodial staff, and administration for their hard work and commitment to making Wilson an amazing school! We March On! Part of the work that the Wilson Athletic Leadership Council is working on is Teacher Appreciation. An initiative that they came up with is Teacher of the Month. They set the criteria, nominated, and voted. Below are our September Teachers of the Month:
Jaydra Johnson - The Leadership Council had to say this about Ms. Johnson. She is one of the most inclusive, outgoing, and thoughtful teachers here at Wilson High School. Her classes are engaging and thought provoking. She genuinely cares about the school and community and she goes out of her way to genuinely get to know her students in her classroom. Ms. Johnson makes everyone in her class feel welcomed and everyone is heard. She is awesome!
Aaron Olsen - The Leadership Council had this to say about Mr. Olsen. Mr. Olsen's classes are more than just about the day to day but rather, he is teaching us life skills and lessons that we can take with us for life. He is passionate about the subject matter that he teaches and that comes across in his energy in his classroom. He makes everyone feel welcome and respected in his classes and he goes out of his way to challenge all of us. He rocks!
The Week in Review - The Volleyball Program had a great week this past week. We hosted Madison on Wednesday and all three levels swept the Senators. We hosted a JV2 Tournament for the first time on Saturday and it went great. Our team competed well against some very good competition. The JV Team traveled to West Salem for their last tournament of the year as well and competed well. We have a big this week for the program when we host Jefferson on Tuesday night. It is senior night as well so come out and support and help say goodbye to some amazing seniors. On Thursday we travel to Cleveland to hopefully wrap up a 2nd place finish in the PIL. Can’t say enough about Coach Mendak and his staff. We March On! The Women’s Soccer Program battled it out again this past week. The Varsity squad took down the Franklin Quakers on Tuesday night and then battled cross town rival Lincoln to a tie on Friday night. The Varsity wraps up their season on Tuesday night against Madison. It is Senior Night for their program as well. Come out and support and help us say goodbye to some amazing soccer players! Our Cross Country Program traveled to the Warner Pacific Classic on Saturday and competed against some elite level programs from Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. The Varsity Women finished 5th while the JV finished 6th. On the Men’s side, the Varsity finished 8th and the JV Squad finished 6th as well. We were able to celebrate the seniors and their families on Friday night at the Football game. Great night for the program and the senior class. On Wednesday, we travel to the PIL Championships. We March On! The Men’s Soccer Program battled it out this past week against Franklin and Lincoln. We came up short in our efforts against two really good opponents. We face off with Madison and Cleveland this week. On Thursday, it is senior night for the team. Come out and support the program by honoring the seniors! It was senior night on Friday for the Football Program when we hosted a very good Scappoose Football Team. A huge thanks goes out to the senior class and their families for all they have done to help grow our Football Program. Our guys competed hard on Friday but came up short in their efforts. They travel to Wilsonville on Friday for a JV2/Varsity double-header. The JV2 will also travel to Scappoose on Monday as well. On Friday night, we also honored the Senior Cheerleaders and their parents. A huge thanks to the coaching staff, parents, and families for creating a fun, positive, and exciting Cheer Program and a big thanks to the senior Cheerleaders for four great years! We March On!
