Greetings Sports Fans!

We had another exciting week of Wilson Athletics this past week with another big week coming up. Our Soccer Programs have one more week of non-league play before they begin their march into league play. The Volleyball Program has another big week of league play as they continue their quest at competing for a city-title. Our Football Program travels to St. Helens for a big league game on Friday.  And our Cross Country Program has two big meets this week as well.  We March On!

One of the many great things about Wilson High School is our Unified Sports Program and we are excited to host two Unified Soccer Games this week. Coach Bradach and his squad are hosting a contest on Wednesday at Rieke with a game time of 4pm versus West Linn.  On Friday, we will be hosting Grant in the stadium with a 3:30 start time. Come cheer on our Wilson Unified Soccer Program! We March On!

The Athletic Department had our Head Coaches Meeting this past week where we discussed the goals of the Athletic Department, collaborated on school improvement ideas, and discussed our theme for the year for our coaches that centers around our Why. Why do I Coach? Why do I coach the way I do? How does it feel to be coached by me? How do I define success?  These four questions will be central to the work that we are doing this year to create inclusive, positive, and competitive sports programs. The following link from our PCA Partnership is another resource to help guide our work as well. The other link is from the Focus 3 Podcast that centers around the concept of growth mindset and the power of positivity.

We will be having our first Wilson Athletics Leadership Council Meeting of the year in the coming week. Our foundational year last year was great and we are going continue to build upon the following areas this year; School Spirit, Teacher Appreciation, and Community Outreach. We will using tools from the Positive Coaching Alliance and resources from Jeff Jannsen’s work on leadership as well.

On Sunday, September 30th, our Women’s and Men’s Golf Programs are having a fundraiser at Red Tail Golf Club to benefit both of their programs. It will be a great day of golfing and dinner. Please visit the following link to sign up and pay-

A message from the Booster Club:

Volunteer for concessions today!  The Wilson Booster Club manages concession sales at games. All profits are returned to Wilson clubs and sports. In order to offer concessions, volunteers are needed to prepare and sell hot dogs, popcorn, etc.  Sign up to help today at  No experience necessary!  If you are new to concession volunteering you'll be trained when you arrive. This is a fun way to give back to the Wilson community.

The Week in Review:
The Volleyball Program had a strong week with a convincing win against Roosevelt on Tuesday night with all three levels winning. We traveled on Thursday to take on the returning PIL Champs, Lincoln Cardinals. Our squads competed well with the JV2 winning but the Varsity and JV came up short in their efforts. On Saturday, the Varsity competed in the Lakeridge Tournament and played fantastic. We finished off the tournament by winning the Consolation Bracket by beating Lakeridge and Beaverton. The JV Team had another great showing in the Hillsboro Tournament making their way to the Championship Game but came up just short in their quest finishing 2nd. We have a big week of Volleyball this week when we travel to Jefferson Tuesday night and host Cleveland on Thursday Night. It is Youth Appreciation Night for the Program so come out and support our community of Volleyball Athletes! We March On!

The Women’s Soccer Program is battling it out in their tough pre-season schedule as they faced off with St. Mary’s and Barlow this past week while the JV2 played OES and Wilsonville. With a tough pre-season schedule, this should prepare them for a good run in league play. The Varsity and JV Teams will play Sunset and Westview this week while the JV2 will face Clackamas and Oregon City.

The Cross Country Program continues to march along as they gear up for another run at the PIL City Title. Our runners traveled to Eugene on Saturday where we did an outstanding job of competing against some of the best in the state at the Northwest Classic. Our Men’s Team finished 3rd in all three races while the Women’s Team finished 4th in all three races. Francesca Ierulli set a new school record with a time of 18:26! We March On!

The Men’s Soccer Program had a big week this past week with the Varsity taking on Lake Oswego and Gresham. Two very good soccer programs and came up just short in their contests. The JV Team won their matches against both schools while the JV2 split their games versus Newberg and Clackamas. We have two home contests this week when we host Centennial and Canby. The JV2 Program will host Hood River Valley on Monday and then travel to Delta Park to take on Central Catholic.

Our Varsity Football Program traveled to Forest Grove on Friday night to take on the Vikings. The game was exciting all the way down to the last play from scrimmage but we came up just short losing 28-27.  It was a great game and just unfortunate that someone had to lose that game. Our guys competed hard and continue to improve. The JV2 Team had their first contest on Monday against Cleveland and walked away with a 28-8 victory over the Warriors. We will host Forest Grove for a JV2 contest on Monday while the Varsity will travel to St. Helens on Friday.
