Greetings Sports Fans!

Wilson High School had a great week in athletics this past week. Our Volleyball Program is continuing to improve and is gearing up for a big week this week. Both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Programs are deep into their pre-season contests as they prepare for league play. The Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Program are both improving and looking forward to fight for a city title. Our Cheer Program looked amazing at our first home Football game. And last but not least, our Football Program played an outstanding game on Friday night to win a great battle against Cleveland. It was a great night of football, the crowd was great, and we endured a crazy lightening storm to boot! We March On!

“You can’t always control circumstances. However, you can control your attitude, approach, and response. Your options are to complain or to look ahead and figure out to make the situation better.” – Tony Dungy

This quote made me think of the Football Program and all they have endured the past year and to get a big win on Friday night in front of a great crowd was a huge shot in the arm for the school, the program, and the community.  It really boils down to the power of positivity and how it can help create a culture in a program or community that is infectious and can galvanize them around the idea that great things can happen as long as you remain positive. The following links are helpful tools that reinforce the power of positivity.

Please join us on Sunday, September 30th for a round of golf and buffet dinner.  This event will support both the Men’s and Women’s Golf Programs. Let's help the Trojan's march through another successful season!

A message from the Booster Club:

Volunteer for concessions today!  The Wilson Booster Club manages concession sales at games. All profits are returned to Wilson clubs and sports. In order to offer concessions, volunteers are needed to prepare and sell hot dogs, popcorn, etc.  Sign up to help today at No experience necessary!  If you are new to concession volunteering you'll be trained when you arrive. This is a fun way to give back to the Wilson community.

The Week in Review:

The Men’s Soccer Program had another strong showing this past week. The Varsity and JV traveled to Southridge on Wednesday and won 1-0 against a good Southridge squad. The JV Team won as well winning 2-1. On Saturday, the Varsity won 2-1 with Logan Clizer scoring twice. The JV2 squad played Jefferson on Wednesday night in a tough contest but came up short in their efforts. The JV2 have two contests this week both on the road at Newberg and Clackamas. On Tuesday, we will have our first home contest when we host Lake Oswego for a Varsity and JV contest and then both teams travel on Thursday to Gresham. Coach Mathews and his crew are doing an outstanding job of building a very competitive Men’s Soccer Program.

Coach Bundy and the Varsity Program played an exciting match on Wednesday night getting a victory against Central Catholic 2-1. Mackenna Antonini scoring the go ahead goal in the 10th minute. The JV Team won their match as well while the JV2 Program won their first match against Benson on Wednesday. Great week for the program as they have a big week of soccer ahead with contests against St. Mary’s, OES, Wilsonville, and Barlow. With the difficulty of their pre-season schedule, it is great to see them improve each match.

The Volleyball Program continues to march along with some impressive wins against Madison and Franklin this past week with all three levels winning their contests. The JV Squad traveled to the Oregon City Tournament on Saturday and played fantastic marching their way to the Championship game in their bracket. It is a big week for the program as they face off against Roosevelt on Tuesday and have a huge Varsity contest on Thursday against cross town rival Lincoln High School.  Coach Mendak continues to build a program that is inclusive, competitive, and fun! We March On!

The Cross Country Program had a great showing at the PIL Preview on Wednesday. In the Novice race, Wilson took First. The JV Men finished second while the Varsity Men finished third. On the Women’s side, the JV took second while the Varsity placed second as well. They will be traveling to Lane Community College on Saturday for the Northwest Classic. The entire Cross Country staff is doing an outstanding job of building a highly competitive and community based program! Keep Marching!

And what a week it was for the Wilson Football Program! They played an outstanding game on Friday night against Cleveland High School. The game was back and forth and came down to the last possession. Could not be more proud of the student-athletes and coaching staff. What a great game and what a shot in the arm in the program as they hope to take that momentum to Forest Grove on Friday night when we play the Vikings. The JV2 Program will be traveling to Cleveland tomorrow for their first contest of the year as well!

Finally, it was great to see the Wilson Cheerleaders in action on Friday night! They looked great under first year coach, Camille Soppe-Novetta. They brought great energy to the game!
