“Do not let what you can not do interfere with what you can do.”- John Wooden

Greetings Sports Fans!

Week one of the school year is in the books and what a week it was! Our Volleyball Program started off league play this week in convincing fashion. The Wilson Football Program traveled to S. Eugene for their season opener. The Women’s Soccer Program had two important contests and the JV2 Men’s Soccer Program has their first game on the pitch. On top of all that, our student-athletes spent their first week in the classroom with their new teaches for the new school year. Needless to say, an exciting first week of school. We March On!

“One person practicing sportsmanship is far better than a hundred teaching it.”-Knute Rockne

Sportsmanship is one of the most important components when it comes to competition and it should never be over looked.  Our players in the Women’s Basketball Program always played with great sportsmanship and when someone hit the deck, players would run over and help them up. In fact, our program won the Sportsmanship Award twice because the team played with great sportsmanship. The following link from our PCA Partners is a good reminder about the ROOTS of the game.https://d3kv8ayplk3lle.cloudfront.net/sites/uploads/files/EYG_3_2.pdf

The Week in Review:
Our Women’s Soccer Program got right back after it this week after a trip down to Grants Pass. They faced off with Mountainside and Glencoe, two very competitive programs at both the JV and Varsity levels. We came up short in the efforts against both clubs but are battling it out in a very competitive non-league schedule. The JV2 Program will get their first taste of competition on Wednesday when we host Benson at Gabriel Park and the Varsity and JV Programs look to get on track when we host Central Catholic on Wednesday.

The Men’s Soccer Program had one contest this week when we hosted Mountainside in a JV2 contest. Wilson was victorious in Coach Johnstone’s debut as the new JV2 Men’s Coach. The Varsity and JV programs will be traveling to Southridge on Wednesday and to West Albany on Saturday. We will host Jefferson for a JV2 contest on Wednesday at Gabriel Park.

Cross Country had the week off and will get back after it this week at the PIL Preview at Fernhill Park on Wednesday. They look ready to compete for a city title again this year and hopefully make some noise again at the state level as well.

The Football Program traveled down to South Eugene on Friday for a contest against a much improved South Eugene squad. Our guys played hard but couldn’t quite get any momentum during the game. Andy Martinez kicked off the game with a nice touchdown run and followed it up later with another nice touchdown run. He also had one interception for the game as well. We host Cleveland on Friday for our first league contest.

The Volleyball Program had a strong week starting off league play on a strong note by sweeping both Benson and Grant in straight sets going 2-0 for the week in league play. During the Benson match, both the JV and JV2 programs swept as well. At Grant, the JV Team lost a tough one 3-2 while the JV2 won 3-2. At the Southridge Tournament on Saturday, the Varsity competed well by finishing second in their pool by splitting their matches will Corvallis and Valley Catholic and a convincing win against Westview. We host Franklin on Tuesday and then travel to Madison on Friday. On Saturday, the JV and JV2 Programs will have their first tournaments of the year at Sandy and Oregon City. We March On!

A message from the Booster Club:

Volunteer for concessions today!  The Wilson Booster Club manages concession sales at games. All profits are returned to Wilson clubs and sports. In order to offer concessions, volunteers are needed to prepare and sell hot dogs, popcorn, etc.  Sign up to help today at http://signup.com/go/VJ19f3 No experience necessary!  If you are new to concession volunteering you'll be trained when you arrive. This is a fun way to give back to the Wilson community.
