Greetings Sports Fans!

It is teacher appreciation week this week and I cannot thank our team of teachers at Wilson High School enough for all that they do to ensure our student-athletes get every opportunity they can in the classroom.  They truly are an outstanding group of people to work with and because of their dedication to our student-athletes, we have achieved some really great accomplishments, especially when it comes to the OSAA Academic All-State Top Ten.

For the Winter Sports Season, our Cheerleading Team was #1 in the state with the highest GPA! Outstanding accomplishment for a great group of kids.  The following teams made the top ten-

  • Women’s Swimming             #7
  • Wrestling                              #6

For the Spring Sports Season, the Wilson High School Band under the direction of Nick Caldwell, was #1 in the state with the highest GPA along with the Men’s Track and Field Program earning a #1 ranking as well! The following teams made the top ten-

  • Softball                                   #3
  • Women’s Track and Field      #5
  • Men’s Tennis                          #9
  • Women’s Tennis                    #7
  • Men’s Golf                              #8
  • Women’s Golf                         #6
  • Speech & Debate                   #5

We March On!

Wilson High School is hosting the Compassion Clinic on Saturday May 19th from 8am-3pm. This is a free clinic that offers a variety of resources including Dental Treatment, Basic Medical Exams, Eye Exams, and more. If you are in need of an updated physical, this would be a great opportunity to take advantage of a free service.

There is still time and room to sign up for the Brats and Brews House Party hosted by Leanne Van Horn.  This was one of the items at the auction that benefits Wilson Athletics. Please visit the following link for more information on how to sign up.

The Varsity Softball Team had a good week going 2-1 in league play and in a battle for the final playoff spot in league play. Big week for the program as they play another 3 game stretch this week with some of the top teams in the PIL, Franklin and Roosevelt.

The Varsity Baseball Squad starting off the week by winning the first of two against first place, Grant. They came up just short in the second contest against Grant. On Friday, our cross town rival, the Lincoln Cardinals came to our place and we faced one of the top pitchers in the state.  We battled but ultimately came up short 4-3. Big week for them as they jockey for playoff positioning.

Coach K and the Women’s Golf Program is looking to wrap the regular season this week with a chance at winning the PIL City Title! They have done an outstanding job of competing this year and it would be a huge accomplishment knocking off the perennial powerhouse! We March On!

Coach Widman and the Men’s Golf Program are looking at wrapping up the regular season as well this week. They have a great shot at making a run during Regional Tournament.

The Track and Field Program has a big week this week and they prepare for the JV District Meet and the Varsity District Meet.  On Tuesday, Izzy Esler dominated the competition at the Javelin, throwing a distance of 114-04 and Keating Hinkley set a new PR with a throw of 46-02 in the Shot Put. Maeson Graff set personal and season records in the High Jump and Long Jump as well. For all things Track, please visit https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/School.aspx?SchoolID=214

Both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Programs had great weeks as well as they gear up for the District Meet this week. Both programs have created a competitive, inclusive, and fun environment for our student-athletes. They have a real chance of making some noise at the District Meet this week. Come out and watch them if you get a chance at the Portland Tennis Center.

Finally, both the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Programs are in the home stretch of their seasons as well. The Women faced a tough Lincoln squad this past week coming up short in their efforts. The Men went 1-1 this past week losing a tough one to Columbia River on Friday Night. Come out and watch a contest if you can. They are a thrill!!

Mark your calendar now for Tuesday May 29th at 7pm for our Wilson High School Athletics Year End Celebration. We will host it in the auditorium. Going to be a night to celebrate our student-athletes and coaches for all of their work this year.
