Greetings Sports Fans!
We had some incredible moments of positivity this past week at Wilson that make you proud to be a Trojan! Our Unified Sports Program was awarded with some amazing recognition. We added a new addition to our Coaching Staff with the hire of our new Football Coach, Keith Bennett. We sent nine Wilson Swimmers to the State Meet. We recognized our seniors in the Men’s Basketball Program and from the Cheerleading squad as well. Our Color Guard performed at halftime of the Unified Basketball Game and the Men’s Basketball Game, the Robert Gray and Jackson School Bands joined the Wilson Pep Band, and they rocked the house on Friday night! The power of positivity can have a transformative impact. I have attached a document that has twenty positive affirmations and the following link has some great stuff too! https://thedailycoach.substack.com/ We March On!
We hosted Madison on Friday night and it was Senior Night for the Program. We said goodbye to three seniors who have made a huge impact at Wilson. Zach Nagy has been a part of the program all fours years as both a player and a player manager. Jaden Sturgeon, who has been a manager for four years, got to suit up and start for the final home contest of his senior year! Finally, we said goodbye to Xander Hansen who has been instrumental all four years he has been in the program. A quiet leader who has done all the right things!
The Swim Program sent Isaac Anderson, Michael Spicer, Noah Peng, Jake Wilson-Goodwin, Greta Cannon, Gus Johnson, Nathan Forbes, Ben Kono, Jules Solomon, and Blake Fuller to the State Meet this past week. Although we did not qualify anyone for the finals, it was a fantastic year for the program. Our coaches continue to create a positive, fun, inclusive and competitive program for our swimmers!
Our Cheer Program recognized their three seniors on Friday Night, Sarah Jaworski, Alivia Clay, and Martini Di Segni. Sarah will attending Grand Canyon University next fall to study Biology. Alivia head to Texas to either TCU or Trinity and studying Microbiology. Finally, Martini was our exchange student this past year, we were lucky to have her on the squad, and we wish her all the best in her path ahead. Thank you seniors for your time and dedication to the Cheer Program!
Wilson Color Guard
Our Color Guard Squad performed this past week at both the Unified Basketball Game and on Friday night. They did an outstanding job of performing to the Wilson Fight Song played by the Wilson Pep Band! If you are interested in joining the Wilson Color Guard Team, please contact Julie Fleming in the Counseling Office.
The WHS Dance Team
This team is about teaching not only dance but also long-term memory, timing, spatial awareness and fun. Traffic is a planned execution. Choreography, your own moves, your songs and more. Join us in performance and competition for the year 2020! We are hoping to perform and compete in 2020. You are welcome to tryout. We will hold additional tryouts on May 1st.
With spring sports right around the corner, a couple of quick things. First, it is never too early to sign up for a spring sport, you can do that at www.familyid.com and the process is easy, especially if you already have an account set. Finally, spring coaches are utilizing the 6A rule of six hours per week of fundamental and program building. If you have any questions or are looking for schedules of workouts, please visit our website to reach out to the coaching staff. www.wilsonathletics.com
School Modernization Efforts
I am sure you are all aware that there are three schools that are still waiting to hear if the school board is going to put Cleveland, Jefferson, and Wilson on the 2020 Ballot for a bond proposal. As a community member, former teacher, and now serving as your Athletic Director, I cannot stress how important it is to make your voices heard regarding this issue. Write, email, or call our school board and let them know how important it is for the final three PPS Schools to be on the next ballot. Our community of students and athletes deserve a new facility!
Help support Wilson High School and become a Booster Club Member and sign up for a volunteer spot for one of our home contests. You can find out more information at https://www.wilsonboosterclub.com/

New Football Coach
It is with great pleasure to announce our new Head Coach to lead the Wilson Football Program, Keith Bennett. Coach Bennett comes to us with an outstanding football background with success at each one of his stops. He was the Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Amity High School where they compiled a record of 111-11 while winning six State Championships. From there, he coached at West Linn High School serving at the Varsity OLB Coach and JV Defensive Coordinator. His next stop was at Riverdale where he served as the Head Coach. His final two stops were at Horizon Christian serving as Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, and Head Coach as well. He also was the Head Football Coach and Defensive Coordinator at North Marion where he helped lead the Huskies to two City Titles and three straight State Playoff berths.
Coach Bennett has a vision for the entire Football Program from the High School all the way down to each and every one of his youth players in the program. He is a coach of high character, integrity, and is going to build an exciting brand of football for our community.
If you are interested in reaching out to Coach Bennett to express your interest in helping build the foundation of the program, please feel free to reach out at firstname.lastname@example.org
We are going to host a meeting on Friday, February 28th at 6pm in the Wilson Cafeteria for all returners, youth football players, and parents.
Our Wrestling Program had a great showing at the PIL District Meet over the weekend. The program qualified seven wrestlers for the state tournament with Gus Johnson and Jack Walker winning District Titles, Noah Nelson finished second, and Ethan Mershon, Christian Mondero, Kamani Taitano, and Jesse Brodrick all finishing third and heading to state as well. The entire program finished third at the District Meet! Madyson Day will be competing for Wilson at the State Tournament as well! Great year for the program and thank you coaches for all your hard work this season!
