Greetings Sports Fans!
We had a great week of Wilson Athletics this past week! Our Wrestling Program had a great showing at the PIL District Meet with seven wrestlers heading to the State Tournament. The Swim Program had a great showing at the District Meet as well. They are sending a contingent of student-athletes to compete for Wilson at the State Meet. The Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams continue to battle it out in league play and our Unified Basketball Team continues to do great things on the court as well. We hosted the Positive Coaching Alliance for the second seminar in our Character and Leadership Series and it was a fun and engaging session. For the week coming up, we have a huge double-header versus Grant High School in Basketball. The Varsity Women will kick off the Varsity double header starting at 5:30pm. We host a Unified Basketball Game at 3:45pm against Mountainside on Wednesday. There will be a special presentation by the Special Olympics foundation for Wilson High School at halftime of the contest. Looking forward to a great week ahead in Wilson Athletics! We March On!
Character and Leadership:
We hosted the Positive Coaching Alliance this past week with the seminar focusing on elevating your teammates. I really appreciate the work that PCA is providing for Wilson High School and our student-athletes. I am attaching a document that I have shared with our coaching staff about creating a word that can be a reminder for how you want to approach the upcoming season as an individual or as a team. Along with that, the following link is a powerful video that I think ties into all the work we are doing around character and leadership from the Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball Program. https://whatdriveswinning.com/conference-videos/oregon-womens-basketball/
Our Wrestling Program had a great showing at the PIL District Meet over the weekend. The program qualified seven wrestlers for the state tournament with Gus Johnson and Jack Walker winning District Titles, Noah Nelson finished second, and Ethan Mershon, Christian Mondero, Kamani Taitano, and Jesse Brodrick all finishing third and heading to state as well. The entire program finished third at the District Meet! Madyson Day will be competing for Wilson at the State Tournament as well! Great year for the program and thank you coaches for all your hard work this season!
The Swim Program had a great showing at the PIL District Meet. Isaac Anderson was the PIL Champion in the 200 Yard IM and the 100 yard Backstroke, Michael Spicer was the PIL Champion in the 100 Yard Butterfly and will be competing in the 500 Yard Freestyle, Greta Cannon will be swimming in the 500 Yard Freestyle, and the Boys 200 Yard Yard Freestyle and 400 Free Relay Teams were PIL Champions as well. Both the men and women’s teams finished third this year. What a great showing at the meet for the program and a huge thanks to the coaching staff for their continued great work for the Swim Program!
We are hosting Mountainside on Wednesday for our last home Unified Basketball Contest with a tip-off at 3:45pm. The band will be in attendance along with our Cheer Program as well. At half-time, there will be a special presentation for Wilson High School when we will be awarded the National Unified Championship Banner. The leadership class will be raffling away two tickets to a Blazer Game as well! Come out and help us pack the gym for this great team and coaches!
The WHS Dance Team

With spring sports right around the corner, a couple of quick things. First, it is never too early to sign up for a spring sport, you can do that at www.familyid.com and the process is easy, especially if you already have an account set. Finally, spring coaches are utilizing the 6A rule of six hours per week of fundamental and program building. If you have any questions or are looking for schedules of workouts, please visit our website to reach out to the coaching staff. www.wilsonathletics.com
School Modernization Efforts
I am sure you are all aware that there are three schools that are still waiting to hear if the school board is going to put Cleveland, Jefferson, and Wilson on the 2020 Ballot for a bond proposal. As a community member, former teacher, and now serving as your Athletic Director, I cannot stress how important it is to make your voices heard regarding this issue. Write, email, or call our school board and let them know how important it is for the final three PPS Schools to be on the next ballot. Our community of students and athletes deserve a new facility!
