Greetings Sports Fans!
What a great week in Wilson Athletics this past week! The Varsity Women’s Soccer Program took down two perennial powers in the Portland Interscholastic League. Our Varsity Volleyball Program continues to march along in league play picking up some big victories. Our Cross Country Program had another great week at their meet. The Men’s Soccer Program picked up big win and our Unified Soccer Team battled it out on Thursday as well! The Athletic Department cannot thank our coaches, student-athletes, the Wilson Staff, and the parents enough for all you have done to make Wilson an amazing place! We March On!

Character and Leadership
Speaking of gratitude, we shared this following link with the staff at Wilson and our coaches. It is a good read on the power of positivity and the importance of gratitude. The other link is from our partners from PCA that I have shared in the past, the 21-Day Gratitude Challenge.

Wilson Booster Club-Thank You!
A huge thanks to the Wilson Booster Club and their generous donation helping the Athletic Department purchase new chairs for the Gymnasium! The Wilson Booster Club does an outstanding job of supporting all things Wilson! If you would like to become a member or volunteer, please visit

Wilson Athletics-A week in review
The Varsity Men’s Soccer Program split their contests this past week battling against a very good Grant Team and then traveling to Roosevelt and picking up a win in a very competitive league. The JV Team was able to get a split this week as well. The JV2 Team is having an impressive year as well. According the Coach Kinlaw,” The JV2 Boys team has gotten off to a perfect 8-0-0 start this season! We have a deep team this year and over half the team has contributed with at least one goal, resulting in 39 goals scored so far. Those that have not scored have been equally impressive in anchoring a stingy defense, collecting five clean sheets while allowing only three goals. However, our season has not passed without adversity. Two of our captains (and starting defenders), Julian Blaine and Elliot Otto-Fitzsimons, suffered season ending injuries early in the season. With defense already our thinnest position, Ethan Kievet and Nico Lomanto immediately put the team first, stepped into less familiar positions on the field, and have been excellent in new roles.” The program has a big week with Franklin and Cleveland on the schedule.

Our Varsity Women’s Soccer Program has kicked off to a great start this year in league play taking down Lincoln during our West Side Story Night. They then capped that off by traveling to Grant and pulling out another victory as well. Makenna Antonini followed up a two-goal performance against Lincoln and managed to find the net twice against Grant as well. On Thursday, we had a battle with Roosevelt and ultimately came out on top 1-0. The JV Team went 1-1 for the week splitting with Grant and Roosevelt while the JV2 Team managed a tie against Franklin. On Monday night, it is Senior Night for the program. Come out and help us celebrate our outstanding seniors!

Our Unified Soccer Team took on a tough Rainer Team on Thursday in the stadium. Freshmen, Andrew Holter, scored his first goal for the Trojans. The team will face off against Grant this Thursday in the Wilson Stadium at 3:45pm. Huge thanks to Danny Bradach and Monica Holmzer for creating a fun, safe, and inclusive program!

The Volleyball Program had quite a week this past week with the program sweeping Cleveland on Monday. At the Double Duals on Wednesday, the Varsity swept the night beating Grant and Franklin along with the JV. The JV2 split against both teams. The JV2 rebounded and won their bracket at the JV2 Tournament we hosted over the weekend. They have one contest this week when they travel to take on Madison.

Our Cross Country Program had quite a meet at the PIL/Mt. Hood Crossover event. The Varsity Men finished third overall with Guiliano Scasso finishing second overall. The JV Men finished second overall in their pool. On the Women’s side, it was a clean sweep with the Varsity Women finishing first overall and JV Women finishing in 1st place as well. They will travel to Lents Park on Saturday for the Warner Pacific Cross Country Classic.

The Football Program continues to grind it out in a tough NWOC Conference again this year with some really good competition. The squad has battled week in and week out. The scoreboard has not reflected on how hard the group is working. The JV2 will play Parkrose tomorrow at 4pm and the Varsity travels to Scappoose this Friday.
