PIL Hall of Fame Speaking of alumni, Wilson High School is pleased to announce that Tim Baltus, Sol Sallos, and Jason Porter were all nominated and will be inducted into the PIL Hall of Fame. Outstanding accomplishments for these three former Wilson Student-Athletes and Wilson Hall of Fame Members. The induction ceremony will be in October 27th at the Multnomah Athletics Club. A big thanks to Jack Bertell and John Dunn for all their work with the Wilson Hall of Fame and the PIL Hall of Fame! For more information regarding the PIL Hall of Fame and the work they do, please visit PIL Youth Sports The work that Portland Interscholastic League has been putting into supporting youth sports was on full display this weekend at Wilson High School where we hosted 6th Grade Youth Volleyball. It was great to see all the PIL Schools represented at Wilson. The work that the PIL office has been putting into youth sports has been transformational to say the least. They now support Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Boy/Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, and Track and Field. Wilson Booster Club The Wilson Booster Club does an outstanding job of supporting all things Wilson! If you would like to become a member or volunteer, please visit New Dance ProgramCome be a part of the new Wilson Dance Program! Our new Dance Coach, Kimberley Allen, is excited about creating a new and inclusive Dance Program that is open to all. She comes with a wealth of experience and deep background in the Dance Community. We are going to have tryouts for the Dance Team on Tuesday October 1st in the Wilson Gym from 4-6pm. Come be part of the founding members of the new Dance Team and help spread the word! Wilson Athletic Leadership Council Meeting We had our first meeting of the Wilson Athletic Leadership Council meeting this past week. It was great to see the returners and new faces in the room! We discussed our notes from the last meeting from last year and upcoming events for the new school year. The first big event for the year will be the October 3 rd stacked Varsity contests against Lincoln. Our goal is to help spread the word and pack the stands for the Soccer and Volleyball Matches. The Athletic Department purchased three 6 X 8 flags that were on display at the Football game on Friday and will be out for the contests. We have created t-shirts for the event. Our own Nick Caldwell and the drummers from the Band will be out. There will be mascot races between the Trojan and Cardinal from Lincoln. And we will be recognizing our youth programs than night as well! Going to be a fun night! We March On! Wilson Athletics-A week in reviewOur Football Program had quite a contest on Friday night against Forest Grove. Our first play from scrimmage was a nifty little play that put us on the board with Jaden Brannan scoring on a 45 yard touchdown pass from Hunter Davis. The game was back and forth all the way up to the final drive of the game. The squad battled the entire night but came up short falling 34-41. The JV2 will be traveling to Forest Grove on Monday and the Varsity will host St. Helens on Homecoming Night. The Volleyball Program continues to march along in league play taking down Franklin and Madison this past week. The lower levels also came out on top as well. The JV2 Programs was out at McMinnville this past weekend and had a productive tournament finishing 2-2. The program has a big week with three matches against Roosevelt, Jefferson and Benson. A huge shout out to the coaching staff for their work this year! The Varsity Women’s Soccer Program had a good week of soccer facing off with two very competitive soccer programs in St. Mary’s and Barlow. Against St. Mary’s, we were able to manage a victory over the Blues. At Barlow, against a very good team, the squad competed hard but came out on the losing end 3- 2. They have two big more big tests in the pre-season facing off with Sunset and Westview this week. On the men’s side, we took on Centennial and Gresham. Against Centennial, we found the back of the net once but it wasn’t enough to overcome Centennial. The Gresham contest was exciting all the way down to the final seconds of the match where it ended in a 2-2 tie. They have the week off and face West Albany on Saturday.
