Greetings Sports Fans!
This past week was another exciting week in Wilson Athletics with our programs battling it out in the preseason as they prepare to compete in league play. Our teachers are getting ready to head into the third week of the year preparing challenging, inclusive, and inspiring lessons. And it has been great to see so many students attending soccer and football contests along with our supportive parents as well! We host our first home volleyball match this week so help us pack the gym on Tuesday! Great things continue to happen at Wilson High School. We March On!
Character and Leadership:
Continuing our conversation around character and leadership, I can’t thank our coaches enough for continuing their work around these topics. They continue to provide opportunities for our student-athletes to grow, learn resiliency, and foster leadership and character skills.

Wilson Athletics-A week in review:
Our Volleyball Program traveled to Lincoln this past week and the Varsity come out victorious in the first league match of the year. Huge victory for the Varsity Squad as they prepare to battle it out in league play. We will host Cleveland on Tuesday and then travel to Grant on Thursday.
The Football Program opened up their 2019 season when we hosted South Eugene on Friday night in front of a great crowd of student-athletes and parents. The team battled up until the final horn but couldn’t quite get in rhythm all night. The team will re-group this week when we face off against Cleveland this Friday in league play.
Our Men’s Soccer program continued to put up goals this past week. Both the JV and Varsity Teams traveled to Canby and came out on top. The Varsity locked up a decisive 5-0 victory for the night. The Varity and JV have big contests this week with two formidable opponents in Lake Oswego and Southridge. The JV2 will have their first contests of the year against Catlin Gabel and Clackamas.
Cross Country traveled to Pier Park for the PIL Relay Races. This a great race for our younger runners to get out and compete. The program will travel to Lents Park on Wednesday and then off to Lane Community College on Saturday as well. The program is poised to make a run at a city championship again this year with some tough competition in the PIL and State.
The Women’s Soccer Program had a good week battling it out with a very good Mountainside Program this past week. The Varsity, in particular, had a battle on their hands with one of the top players in the state at Mountainside. We came up short in our efforts but rebounded well with a victory over Glencoe on Thursday. The JV was able to come out victorious that day as well. The JV2 program kicked off their 2019 season with a hard fought battle against Mountainside on Friday as well. They couldn’t find the back of the net unfortunately dropping their first contest. They travel to Sherwood this week. Can’t thank our new coach, Josh Richards, and his staff for creating a fun, inclusive, and positive program for the student-athletes in the program.
