“To me, soccer is so much more than a ball and two goals; it connects people from all of the corners of the world.” –Unkown Author
Greetings Sports Fans!
Week one is under our belts and what a week it was for our Fall Sports Programs right out of the gate. Our Football Program traveled to Marshall High School for their jamboree and performed well in their opener. Both the Men and Women Soccer programs opened up the year with a double header varsity contest against Grants Pass on Saturday and came out on top. The Cross Country Program traveled to Wilsonville for their first race of the year and walked away with some hardware. Our Volleyball Program opened up with a jamboree and the Varsity Team went to the Southridge Tournament and competed at a high level. The Cheer Program was in full effect at the jamboree this past week getting ready to put on a full performance for our football home opener this Friday. We have added a new member to the Wilson Coaching community for our Dance Program, Kimberley Allen. And I can’t say enough about our Administrative Team this year under the direction of our new Principal, Filip Hristic. I can’t say enough about our community of parents, teachers, coaches, and of course, our student-athletes who all help make Wilson an amazing community to be a part of. We March On!
Character & Leadership
One of the goals of the Athletic Department for the 2019-20 season is to promote, foster, and teach character and leadership. Our coaches are tasked with it and the Athletic Department is committed to it as an ongoing conversation this year. The power of sport can have a transformational impact on the lives of so many and character and leadership is foundational to that transformation. The following two links from our partners at the Positive Coaching Alliance are good reminders about our themes of character and leadership-
Winning is a goal and not our purpose.

The future is extremely bright for the young program with Novice B Men’s, Novice B Women, and Novice A Women’s Teams all finishing in 1st place. Petra Schuster ran a fantastic race and the set the freshmen record for the Wilson XC Program in the 3K. Noah Nelson and Oliver Hamilton ran top ten sophomore times and Charlotte Richman ran the #3 all time sophomore time. Guiliano Scasso, Quinn Wilcox, Sullivan Maag, and Annika Deazley all ran top ten times for juniors. Sylvia Ingram set the Wilson record for sophomores! The program will be traveling to Pier Park on Wednesday for a PIL event.
Our Men’s Soccer Program kicked off the 2019 season with an impressive victory over Grants Pass on Saturday. The game was back and forth until about the 20th minute in the 2nd half when Wilson scored 3 unanswered goals and cruise to a 4-2 victory. Freshmen sensation Carter Kroenke had a goal and two assists. The Varsity and JV will be traveling to Canby this week.
The Women’s Soccer Program kicked off their season with a jamboree at Beaverton High School where both the JV and Varsity Programs competed well in their first tests of the season. On Saturday, they kicked off their Varsity season with an impressive 5-0 victory over Grants Pass. Mackenna Antonini had a hat trick and Hannah Bradley had two goals and two assists. The Varsity and JV will travel to Mountainside tomorrow and how Glencoe on Thursday. The JV2’s first contest will be this Friday against Mountainside at Rieke at 4:15pm.
Our Volleyball Program had their first competitions at Jamborees this past week as they prepare for the 2019 Season. The Varsity traveled to Southridge this past weekend to take on some tough competition at their first tournament of the year. Their pool consisted of McMinnville, Valley Catholic, and Forest Grove. They finished 1st in pool play and then proceeded to take down Crescent Valley on their way to the Championship Match against Valley Catholic. Their run came to an end finishing 2nd but get a chance at Valley again when we host them in October. The program travels to take on Lincoln on Thursday while the JV travel to Oregon City on Saturday.
Finally, the Football Program had a strong showing at the PIL Jamboree this past week. Quarterback, Hunter Davis delivered some tight passes to a talented receiver core and our Defense looked stout against some very good running teams. The Trojans are poised to make some noise this year!
